Constructed c. 1938 under the Works Progress Administration, it served as the venue for the Pope Pius XI in '38, Bob Hope in '44, the Beatles in '64 and is the battleground for numerous memorable prep football games and track meets.  Renovations were undertaken in preparation to host the 1992 Olympic Track and Field Trials requiring the design of world-class track and field facilities, a 200-person press box, network television quality lighting, sound system, scoreboard, and complete renovations of toilet rooms, locker rooms, concessions, drainage infrastructure and perimeter fencing.  It was also designed to continue as the venue for high school athletics.  The Project also included a practice facility located adjacent to the stadium. The project was conceived, designed and executed in an 18-month time frame, including public bidding of most aspects of the project and simultaneously administering seven separate construction contracts
